AAU BLUE – Marine & Maritime Research is Aalborg University’s network of researchers working on challenges related to the sea.
AAU BLUE brings together researchers from across the university and covers a wide range of topics, including
coastal protection and engineering, fisheries, marine ecology, coastal communities, offshore wind farms and other marine-related renewable energy, law of the sea, shipping, maritime technology, maritime history, underwater cameras and other technologies, port development, and much more.
The establishment of the network is supported by the Orient's Fond through a grant to the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The department has invited Associate Professor Troels Jacob Hegland from the Department of Sustainability and Planning to initiate and coordinate the network in collaboration with a student assistant. Troels Jacob Hegland aims to unite efforts across the university and increase the visibility of the research.
“AAU BLUE aims to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration across departments, faculties, and campuses. At the same time, the goal is to make our research more visible and relevant outside the university – to people, businesses, and organizations,” says Associate Professor Troels Jacob Hegland.
AAU BLUE, which held its kick-off meeting in May this year (see photo), already includes more than 60 researchers from Aalborg University - and there’s room for more, says Troels Jacob Hegland:
“The network includes researchers with technical, natural science, social science, and humanities perspectives on the ocean and its activities. Chances are that researchers are working on topics you’re interested in - just from different angles. We have various plans to support network building, but we’re also very open to good ideas!”
At the bottom, you can see the list of AAU BLUE members.
As a member, you become part of an academic network working to strengthen cohesion and collaboration across the university. You’ll be invited to events and receive regular updates on relevant calls and new collaboration opportunities.
The network also serves as a link between AAU’s researchers and the national network Maritime Research Alliance, which brings together maritime research environments across Danish universities.
If you work with marine or maritime topics, you are welcome on board. Contact Associate Professor Troels Jacob Hegland.
